Gift Card Drive for MDUSD Homeless Outreach Program

Number of homeless students  in the District increasing - up to 488 from 300 a year ago;

Foster Youth remain relatively steady at just over 100

WHAT:  Mt. Diablo Unified School District’s (MDUSD) Homeless Outreach Program for Education (HOPE) for the Holidays campaign and gift card drive.

WHEN:  Now through December 1, 2019

WHY:  MDUSD’s Homeless Outreach Program for Education (HOPE) program is committed to addressing barriers to educational success for homeless students and foster youth and ensuring the educational success of all students in the district. HOPE School Social Workers and other staff work with homeless families and foster youth caregivers to reduce stressors and connect families with needed resources, including housing resources, employment assistance, health care and health insurance, mental health care services, and other supports.  Currently, there are 488 students (TK-12th grade) identified as homeless within MDUSD, up from about 300 a year ago, and 107 foster youth.

Donors can help in the following ways:

  • Make a tax-deductible donation by sending a check to “Mt. Diablo HOPE,” 2730 Salvio St., Concord, 94519
  • Make a tax-deductible donation by utilizing Venmo under “MDUSD HOPE”
  • Buy gift cards in any amount that enable parents and guardians to select their own items for their children and buy groceries. Department store and grocery store gift cards can be dropped off at the Mt. Diablo Unified School District Office, 1936 Carlotta Drive, Concord, CA, or mailed and dropped off at Mt. Diablo HOPE, 2730 Salvio St., Concord, 94519.  This is our greatest need.
  • Buy gift cards in the amounts of $25 or $50 from the following businesses and mail/drop off at the HOPE office;  these will be given directly to students so they can purchase something just for themselves:

Each donation directly benefits homeless students and foster youth.   Donations of any amount are considered generous and are welcome year-round. For additional information, please contact MDUSD’s Student Services Department and School & Community Services program at 925.682.8000 extension X3054 or email
